Sponsor Eligibility

Information for Serving as a Sponsor for the Sacraments of Baptism or Confirmation

Have you been asked to served as a godparent for a baptism or as a sponsor for a Confirmation?

If so, here's what you will need to do.

Our pastor will issue sponsor eligibility certificates to registered and participating members of St. Joseph Parish if you, the potential sponsor,  certify that you meet the following criteria:

--  you are not the parent of the person receiving the sacrament;

--  you have the aptitude and intention of fulfilling the obligations;

-- you are at least 16 years of age;

-- you have received the Sacraments of Baptism, First Communion, and Confirmation in the Catholic Church;

-- if you are married, you are validly married accord to the norms of the Catholic Church;

-- you attend Mass regularly on Sunday and holy days of obligation;

-- you have received the Sacrament of Reconciliation and the Holy Eucharist at least once in the past year

-- you are willing to promise to be a support and example of living a Catholic life that reflects the spirit and teaching of the Catholic Church.

If you believe you are eligible to serve as a sponsor, you may download the certificate here, below, fill it out and then turn it in to the parish office for the pastor's review and signature.
