MINOR ROGATION DAYS - THE THREE DAYS BEFORE ASCENSION THURSDAY
Rogation Days are an ancient Catholic tradition dating back to 470 AD. The word "Rogation" is derived from the Latin word "rogare" meaning to supplicate or ask. These special days in the spring are set aside for prayer and voluntary fasting as a means of imploring God's mercy for our nation, our country, and our families. Traditionally, Catholics gathered together and processed around the boundaries of the parish reciting the Litany of the Saints, prayers for a good and bountiful harvest, and prayers for protection in calamities and natural disasters. The priest blesses the grounds, pastures, fields, gardens, orchards, vineyards, water supplies, and animals. He may also perform a solemn exorcism of harmful pests and animals.
